Do we really want a MacBook Air with a Retina display?

MBA. 2015

One of the main products expected for this year by the company and the ones that have been talked about the most lately, is the MacBook Air with Retina display. This update of Apple's most portable computer would respond to the requests of thousands of users who demand the incorporation of this type of screen to the Air range of MacBook.

This week we have seen a concept drawn by 9to5 where we were shown a MacBook Air model of 12 inch screen, with dimensions practically equal to those of the current 11-inch model. Of course this should not be taken as true, but it may be an option. Another characteristic of this model was that it reduced the thickness thanks to the elimination of most of the ports that the current versions have.

This supposed suppression of ports could be due at first to that Apple would be preparing a model of a more moderate price to compete with the devices of rival companies. Okay, but then, will there only be a Retina display on this cheaper model? Or will they move it to the 13-inch model as well?

The logical answer would be to think that yes, all MacBook Airs will have a Retina display, but I can't help but wonder if this would benefit us. If the next MacBook Airs are thinner and also have a Retina display, how long will the battery last? It took a lot to get to 12 hours autonomy that the 13-inch model currently has (9 hours in the case of the 11-inch) to sacrifice in favor of the Retina display, at least in the higher models.

Another of the "hot" points of this concept that we have been able to see is that the Magsafe would disappear, as well as the rest of the different ports (which are not many in themselves) that it has. In its place would be placed a new USB type C, something that would allow the MacBook to be made thinner at the cost of having to adapt to a single port to make all our connections (loading it and transferring files from other devices). The disadvantages are clear: performing a single action at the same time is a nuisance, but it is even more so having to buy a specific adapter to connect a simple "spike" of the kind we use every day.

If Apple wants to release a MacBook Air with a Retina display to replace the current 13-inch model, it will have to be without reducing its thickness, since if not the autonomy of the same we will go to hell (although probably maintaining the same thickness it will already be harmed). One of the main things that users prevail when buying a MacBook Air over a Pro, is the autonomy of the devices, since they are devices designed to easily carry from one place to another and situations where an extra battery is required . A Retina screen would be great, yes, but… do you think it compensates?

As the leak is true and I only have a USB, it is a big shit, I don't want it, you can't load it and connect an external hard drive at the same time

Every day the macbooks carry less ...
for that price I have to say that you buy laptops with better hardware ,,, but of course the design pays!
These Apple ones are losing the grip ,,, I use my macbook pro to DJ, music production etc ... and now with only two USB I have to juggle those ports several times ,,, they really do worse every day, , they add one thing to remove another essential!

personally if it is 12 ″ and it takes what little it carries, this is already a joke ... that is, we pay more and less and less screen, and less things. For that I buy an ipad ...
