Wearables sales grow and Apple continues to lead

Wearables arrived five years ago as the "last great revolution", almost coinciding with an equally irreverent fashion, the likes of 3D televisions. We already know where these televisions and their poor buyers have ended up but ... Did wearables die or are they still the order of the day?

Honestly, wearables in their beginnings were devices ahead of their times, which were not accompanied by capable devices for their purposes. Now the wearables market is on the rise again and Apple continues to maintain a leading position thanks to its smartwatch.

The latest analysis by the consultancy IDC believes that during this year 2019 around 222,9 million units of wearable devices will be sold, including watches, headphones, sports bracelets and "others." This market will grow notably from this year 2019 to the future year 2023, where it is expected to reach 302,3 million of units comprised between all these types of different devices. This analysis has been prepared as of June 19, 2019, so it is the most recent. Therefore, we can get a slight idea that wearables are definitely on the rise again and that has to do with certain factors such as the reduction in the price of some and the new functions of others.

Apple would continue to be the leader, selling almost half of the smartwatches on the market and 25% of the total wearables that people buy. We understand it if we take into account the capabilities of the Apple Watch Series 4, the most complete of all that can be found today, and above all thanks to the constant evolution of watchOS. For now, it seems that Apple will continue to have in the Apple Watch a good example of how to do things in a residual market, the same happens with the iPad, the only tablet today that offers good sales results.
