What should Apple do with the iPhone 4

In recent days, the Apple brand is having a lot of controversy due to the launch of the iPhone 4 and its famous coverage problems. Apple boasted of having made one of the best antennas on the market for a mobile phone. And it is that the idea of integrating the antenna, or rather, of making the structure of the terminal the antenna is, without a doubt and despite the errors, a work of engineering.

Despite everything, Apple did not take into account a small detail: human beings are conductors and when we put the two antennas of the iPhone in contact, the GPS - Bluetooth - Wifi antenna and the coverage antenna with our hands, the coverage antenna makes a kind small short circuit that causes us to lose the signal.

We have seen in the media home tests and professions. SphereiPhone had no problem (they bought the iPhone 4 in London, respectively), they commented that they had to work hard to lose the signal; However, professional tests were made that showed that the iPhone really lost coverage due to Hardware problems and not Software as it seemed at first and as Apple officially commented. This may be the explanation why the 4.0.1 update is delayed, because it cannot fix what users are claiming.

Home repair consists of placing a strip of tape in the small notch that separates the antennas so that the hand does not act as a conductor. Apple recommends buying its official Bumper case so that we do not come into direct contact with the antennas and experts recommend that Apple remove the terminal from the market. Essentially, the problem is to take the mobile phone with the left hand, many of them already had problems with this alone, others had to squeeze the phone hard so that the coverage was gone.

How can you get to have this huge error with the amount of tests that are made to mobile phones, INCLUDING the corresponding ones by the EC and by the US? The sloppy but simple solution is to give away the Bumper, will Apple do it? The impression that I can give Apple in the Keynote is that it wanted to repeat the success of its iPad case with the iPhone but now it seems that it has to be a mandatory accessory for its terminal and thus earn even more money. The latter cannot be true for two reasons:

1st. Apple has not adapted its other accessories to the iPhone, for example, the dock cannot be used with the Bumper case.

2nd. I doubt very much that the minimum controls required by the European Community and by the US were with the cover.

Besides this, did no one really put the cell phone in his left hand? Steve is left-handed like many Americans.

Apple can do two things: remove the iPhone 4 and modify its structure (it will be that not, also despite the error the antennas are very good ideas) or give away the Bumper (this will not like many, they will lose money and should not having to be like that since the mobile is very expensive).

Honestly, I had thought about acquiring a Blumper, so the coverage does not worry me, what does worry me is that the accessories (such as the Dock) are not adapted for the Bumper.

PS: Apple does not help removing Posts related to iPhone 4 coverage from its official forum.

Giving away the bumper is almost impossible for them to do so, and it's even more sloppy.
The truth has been a big mistake.
The solution does not seem easy, but maybe they should redesign the phone.

I have the iphone 4 and if it is true that according to how you take it but I assure you that no problem with calls even without coverage lines and the same with the 3g connection, being able to navigate perfectly

It has not yet arrived in Mexico.
However, for a few days I want and value my 3gb 32Gs more,
the coverage does not go away even if you squeeze it with both hands !! ...
    No, already speaking seriously ...
One of the worst defects of the human being is NOT to recognize when he is wrong .. and
I consider Steve Jobs and Apple to be arrogant, not to pause and stop selling the device ... until the Hardware Defect is corrected ...
Which is already super confirmed by impartial companies ... (who do not gain or lose anything by investigating it)
What are you waiting for? ... For NASA to confirm it too? ...
No way ... mistakes are paid ... And this time you have to stick it out ...
Or is it fair that the consumer always pays….?

    regards

and the proximity sensor problem? Could that be solved with iOS 4.0.1? because it is worth that a bumper «solves» the coverage (I was going to buy it yes or yes, so that issue does not worry me too much) but the issue of the sensor that fails and you can hang up the call without wanting to, worries me

  5.   ruferto said

many people will not buy it because of these problems. one thing is that it is a small problem and in time you discover it. but in this case almost all the experts agree.
my advice is to assume the error and get a new model quickly. there is a fairly simple option on paper (beware, I don't want to simplify). put the wifi antenna inside the phone and leave the mobile antenna outside.

There is a simpler solution and it is to laminate the entire metal edge with less than 0,3mm thickness, in transparent and nobody would notice ... Or maybe just the bottom edge, since it would not be necessary to do it on both parts ...
I suppose that is what they will end up doing, cheap and simple. There are especially resistant plastics, and those who scratch the edge that I give ... erm, buy a cover ...

I have the solution for Apple, they only have to put the antenna on top of the iPhone as the image indicates, the antenna is on the left side to the bottom because not to put it in the same partition or junction next to where the headphones are connected And with respect to the yamadas there are already several that have been cut so that it is really a mistake and I do not think that is why I stopped buying from Germany

Let's see, the solution would be to laminate the antennas, but I doubt that apple wants queues in its apple stores to change / repair all the iPhones already sold.
Finally they will put the bumper in the box and until next year they will not take out the new "iphone with cover" ... oohh! yes, I hope they notice it in the actions and punish them for not wanting to change it now!

I am seriously considering whether to wait another year with my 3G

I almost repeat what I said in another news item, because I think it applies perfectly: These experts already did a first test and said that the phone was more than fine (it was commented at the beginning of the controversy), and now that the issue is so hot , they retract and say otherwise.

It sounds very strange to me that the problem is so serious and what I think is that this problem exists, but you have to have very bad coverage to lose all coverage and the calls are cut off.

What annoys me is that although Apple is not reacting as well as it should, ALL the media, translational and digital, are viciously criticizing Apple and always forgetting that it may partly be a matter of bad AT&T coverage, of users who are taking the usual posture to grab the phone to the extreme ...

... and this includes pages that were theoretically born to talk about Apple news and contrast and comment on them, and that are becoming a nest of snakes echoing each and every one of the negative rumors. No wonder a certain character has left the jailbreak scene: with fans like that, who wants enemies?

Thinking aloud… .. Don't you think that doing it through software can be more than simple for them!?!

In fact, they only have to reprogram the application of the 'coverage bars' so that when we do 'short-circuit with the 2 antennas', the application simply does not 'display' fewer bars….

What do you think?!? For programmers it should be sucked, and more than one user 'unconscious' or 'ignorant' (without being derogatory, I say it because I am not tech savvy) will hit the snot of their life !!!!

    Could be ?!?

They should give you the gosth armor that is venerated in the United States, it is a plastic that totally covers your phone ...

The design flaw being recorded in a brand like Apple is even worse the way it has treated its customers. With the iPhone 4, the Cupertino brand has lost that halo of exclusivity that fascinated many to become another multinational, at the level of Microsoft or Nokia, and with the same objectives, to earn money.

Good evening: I have already mentioned it here before in other posts and in other blogs and I am a user of the iPhone 4 and I do not appreciate serious coverage problems; although I clarify: at home if I put my finger at the junction of the two antennas for a long time if I lose coverage or if I catch it with my left hand. Now: on the street I have never lost coverage either by putting my finger, using my left hand, etc….
Regarding the proximity sensor problem: zero problems….
    Thank you and good night

but let's see…, does anyone think that the problem will be solved with a layer of varnish on the steel of both antennas? I certainly not! and I am not a nuclear physicist, but experience, practice and testing lead me to the conclusion that the proximity of the conductive element "human being" on the two antennas is enough to short-circuit the signal and weaken the reception. Touching both antennas on the “possible varnish”, in the same way as they are touching lately to cause the loss of signal, will produce the same effect (perhaps a little more weakened) than if it is done with the skin directly on the steel.

This means that the solution goes through a redesign of the terminal radically different from the current one, and apparently not very simple.

By the way, I criticized this yesterday in the same sense as the two posts that just came out in a few hours ..., and I received several criticisms against it that make me think of people linked to Apple clicking on the negative vote ...

    To freak out!

By the way ..., can someone tell me how to put a photo next to my nickname? Thanks a lot!

The problem is difficult to solve by software but not impossible: altering the frequency to adapt to the change in impedance. I imagine they are in it (and that is why it takes so long for the new firm to come out). The problem I imagine is to distinguish the impedance change with a loss of coverage.

Hello good, I already mentioned this in another entry related to the iPhone 4 and well it seems to me that this issue is already turning a different color to the Cupertino lso ..! A company like Apple is playing with fire by not recognizing the problems of the iPhone 4 antenna, which has already been demonstrated and proven by many! . It is something that as it goes can make you lose not only image, but credibility in your products and therefore incalculable financial results ..! . This is like a true Boomerang, the sooner they recognize and do what they should have done several weeks ago, to withdraw all the iPhone 4 from the market, compensate those who bought it and redesign the antenna, the boomerang is already reaching the point where it will return. Where it came from and there surely Apple will not like the results at all. I hope they reconsider in time ... !!! Will be able…???

software solution: when they are short, the q is not in use is disabled. and that's it!

I work in a mobile repair SAT, and the solution to varnish the antenna is not going to be Apple who invents it, I repair Nokia and now I do not remember the exact model but a modification of a back cover had to be made (we had to ask for new covers that came with a varnish) and that solved the problem with GPS coverage (since in that terminal the coverage was null).
Apple will be very beautiful because of its design, but it is not perfect, all brands have flaws and they all have good and bad things, that's why when they ask me which mobile is better, I have no answer, I can only recommend which one has fewer flaws. factory (from what I see at work) and then when choosing the phone to see what use is going to be done and if you know how to use its operating system

Vodafone already gives the case as a gift when you buy the terminal !!! Hahaha. Anyone expecting less? By the way, does anyone know of the problem that the Iphone 4 has with the Bluetooth? Few things you can do with the bluetooth of an iphone, that on top of it goes wrong. Personally, it doesn't work well for me with the integrated car speakerphone. The phone connects once and from there it no longer connects, you have to turn off the phone's bluetooth and turn it on again, that, if it lets you… ..
It seems to me that this terminal has been released too soon ...
Anyway, as always, the cousins who have bought the terminal hoping that it would be as good or better than the previous one, we will have to wait for the updates to "save" us, since as always, the end user is the only one who has to pringar, others always go unpunished and well regarded.
They always say that the second parts are not good… .. for something will be!
