What will happen to the iPod Touch?

IPod Touch 5 colors

Apple has been neglecting the sales of its music players for a few years now. And it is that, although these are the devices that catapulted the company to the top at the time, today sales in this segment continue to decrease quarter by quarter. Four years ago Apple introduced the fourth generation iPod Touch, three years ago it integrated a new color to the same model and two years ago it gave it a major facelift by adding a 4-inch screen, improving its camera and processor. However, this year, just 4 months after what would have been its second anniversary, Apple seems to have opted not to renew the range and focus its efforts on its most profitable products.

Specifically, the Cupertino company quietly "refreshed" the range, lowering the prices of the 32 and 64 GB and adding a rear camera as well as greater availability of colors to the most affordable version of the range. There were no processor, screen, or camera changes (for the other two models), nor of anything really beyond the price and the changes in the 16 GB version.

This was not a renewal of the range, it was a simple 'wake-up call' by the company to say that they continue to make iPods Touch and that now the same model from two years ago is even cheaper. In the face of such a panorama, it is not clear what the future of the iPod Touch will be or if it will even have it after this year. By adding new colors to the 16GB model, Apple made it clear that it will continue to make the gadget for at least another year, but what happens next?

The sales speak for themselves and those of the iPod range do not say anything good. The iPod Touch is the only one that, according to analysts, has decent sales but well below Apple's standards. Two years ago the iPod Touch accounted for half of the company's iPod sales and the most likely thing is that the figure will be maintained today, although with much fewer units.

With the purchase of Beats Music for $3 billion, many people expected Apple to breathe new life into its range of music players and give them a new meaning within the company. However, as things stand and taking into account the recent "update" of the iPod Touch, everything indicates that this will not be the case. Apple seems to have given up and it is not for less. A few days ago, for the price at which you bought a 16 GB iPod Touch for 110 euros more, you bought an iPhone 4s and considering that they have the same hardware but the latter is also worth a phone, the decision was more than clear to most.

Music players like the iPod Touch no longer makes much sense on the market in which we move today. The popularization of smartphones is increasing and it is rare for the person who does not have a data rate with a smartphone. We are moving into an era where the iPod Touch is not only expendable but is directly a nuisance. Who wants to load two devices on top and one that does not have internet?

The days of the iPod Touch seem to be numbered and don't take my word for it, just look at how little attention Apple is paying to this range. The iPod Touch had its golden age but it is time to recognize that it is no longer a relevant product.

Every time I see more clearly that I will not see the gadget that I want

For me it would not be an iPod touch, this is more a console intended for young people who cannot have their parents' phone

For me, the gadget that should have been released two years ago was an iPod nano with Wi-Fi, compatible with iTunes Match and the podcast application.

It would be ideal to go for a run without so much fear of falling or being swiped, listening to FM radio, putting on a podcast in bed without fear of falling asleep or falling, traveling by train or plane without wasting the precious battery of the phone, or put your entire library with Wi-Fi connected to the music system, they interrupt it with calls or whatsapp

    Hola!
Well I do not agree with your perspective, I explain, I have Ipad and Samsung, but in the second it is frustrating that it is saturated with photos or to say with music! And to be honest spending monthly on music services or my data plan to listen online is not very practical, where my Ipod Touch comes in has a very very good ability to browse music and photos, I connect it to a speaker via Bluetooth and I do not have the problem of interruptions of notifications and the most precious thing: the saving of battery in my phone, also without problem I can take it in my truck to listen to the music I want with the plus of a camera with very good pixelation, to me is good buy! regards

Risquitos, I liked Your answer; although I do not see anything appropriate for the subject.

On this side I think that with the
    Range of smartphones in the
Market, I do not see the use necessary.

5 years ago I heard the same thing said about the MacMini.
And it was also said about AppleTV at the time.
The prospects are not so linear, when it comes to Apple ...
