WhatsApp now supports QR contacts (in beta)

WhatsApp is that instant messaging app that we love and hate almost equally. Meanwhile, since the application is run by Facebook, its current owner, it is undergoing a constant evolution that does nothing but benefit users. The future was uncertain when this sale was announced, but the truth is that WhatsApp has never been at a better time. The possibility of adding contacts through QR comes to WhatsApp although at the moment only in beta phase. This is just an indication that it will soon be fully available in the official version of WhatsApp through an update.

The possibility of adding contacts through QR codes is available on other platforms and even for other functions, for example Spotify allows us to easily share songs through this type of technology. Now it will be enough to show him our QR code and scan it through the iOS camera (which includes a QR code reader in case you didn't know) and this contact will be added, but not only in WhatsApp, but it will be created by sharing the phone number, and WhatsApp continues to require the phone number for users to appear.

The possibility of not having a phone number to use WhatsApp will come at some point when the application decides to migrate its service "to the cloud" and allows a real multiplatform system, something that is still nothing more than a dream. You can invalidate the QR code (so that no one copies it) by clicking on "Reset QR code" and they will not be able to use it without your permission. As we have said, both the iOS camera and any other QR code scanning app will be valid. This is the version 2.20.60.27 of the WhatsApp beta, is not officially available.
