Starting today, WhatsApp will end-to-end encrypt all your communications

WhatsApp without spies

The battle between the FBI and Apple has revealed that there are not a few users who care about keeping our personal data private. It seems that WhatsApp has taken good note of this and today announced that all messages, photos, voice calls and videos sent through its application will be end-to-end encryption, which means that (in theory) the information will only be accessible from the devices of the sender and receiver of these messages.

So far, WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption was only present in the messages text, but the rest of the information was kept unencrypted. In this way, a judge could ask them to "tap" the users' phones and know everything that was being said, although we all assume that these types of orders would be issued solely to be able to spy on criminals. As of today, if a judge makes a request of this type, WhatsApp Inc. will not be able to offer help even if they wanted to, and this will be the case on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and all platforms where the application of most used messaging on the planet.

WhatsApp follows in Apple's footsteps and will encrypt all communications

This move is still surprising. As you all know, WhatsApp Inc. was acquired by Facebook and the company that Mark Zuckerberg runs bases its business model on advertising. If they encrypt all communications, do not have access to our data and do not charge for the application, how will they generate profits? In any case, if we believe everything they tell us, Facebook would be fulfilling its promise to keep WhatsApp as a company unrelated to the famous social network.

I know that many of you will be thinking (like me) that WhatsApp cannot do what it promises and that we will always be controlled but, if so, the different hackers would speak out about it and "uncover the cake" reporting that they are not telling us the truth , although it is also possible that everything is prepared so that we trust an application to confess in it, providing all kinds of details. At this point, everyone has to think what they think. What is your opinion?

woow what news, although now I do not know if it favors our privacy or if it aggravates our security in the face of criminal acts and acts. That is the dilemma ...

If they encrypt it, they can decrypt it. To be safe, we should encrypt our communications using our own encryption key and that the encryption process was open source so that its security can be audited.

It seems to me that you are not very aware of how encryption keys work in client-server communications ...

I'm wondering the same; if they encrypt it, they can see it, unless they give us the option of a security code for ourselves to encrypt it as Apple will work with iCloud but nothing, something is something, at least that is what they sell us

Has anyone noticed that WhatsApp now heats up the terminal a lot? I have realized today just with the story is the encryption. I have a 6s. Definitely today I stopped using WhatsApp in favor of Telegram. That at this point we do not have a Maria app for iPad is inadmissible.

End-to-end encryption, in English end-to-end encryption, is impossible to see for third parties, because the key to encrypt is generated in each device and is different. WhatsApp company does not have this key. At least it shouldn't have 😉
The only downside is that WhatsApp is not open source such as Signal application that also uses end-to-end encryption and the app is open source. And anyone with knowledge can check its operation.

I repeat NOBODY can see our conversations, at least if the app code is closed and the company that manages WhatsApp sets up a back door that in extreme cases can see the conversations.
That I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

What happens now, that this encryption protects us against sausages.
That does not allow anyone to see conversations in case of connecting to a public WiFi
and a "man in the middle" attack for example.

      Hello Mario,

In fact, WhatsApp end-to-end encryption uses Signal's encryption protocol 🙂
Here you have a link: https://www.whispersystems.org/blog/whatsapp-complete/

And from the moment they started using SSL for communications, MITM attacks became very difficult (Well, or it should have been, if they had implemented SSL Pinning).

While they have made mistakes, they have also usually worked fast to fix them.

Hahahaha hahaha innocent, blah blah blah encryption. The owner of the show is facebook, you do not find out about anything !! You can see and will continue to see all our conversations !! Do you dare to check it out? Get talking about North Korea, iran de eta, terrorist attacks, etc. by wasap to see who comes to visit you ...

Quick to solve them, whatsapp takes 5 or 6 years without encrypting your communications
