A few hours ago WhatsApp, the most popular app of this type, announced that the service will no longer be available for devices with iOS 8 or earlier on February 1, 2020. Additionally, it will also stop working on versions prior to Android 2.3.7.
WhatsApp enters the end of a decade saying goodbye to iOS 8
Since its launch in 2009, WhatsApp has been the most downloaded instant messaging application in the world. Do you remember when it was in the App Stoe for a modest price of 0,99 euros? - iOS 8 and earlier from the 1 of February of 2020
- Android 2.3.7 and earlier from the 1 of February of 2020
Currently, if you had an iPhone with iOS 8, you could hardly perform functions: you could not create or verify new accounts, nor could you transfer the content from one account to another. Therefore, the closing the app in iOS 8 it was something that could be seen coming. However, from the support page they ensure that chats can be transferred to email if they are important to users. But this does not imply that they can then be put into the new terminal, but that they are exported in plain text for reading only.
So, if you have an iPhone with iOS 8 and WhatsApp (which we really doubt) you should prepare because the service will stop working on February 1, 2020.
