What were the most used smartphone apps in 2014?

Nielsen has published a study revealing the applications that we have used the most on our smartphone during 2014, encompassing all currently existing mobile operating systems.

Although many will already have this list more or less clear in their head even before seeing it, it is striking that nine of the 10 most used apps in 2014 They come from two companies: Google and Facebook.

1. Facebook: 118.023.000 unique users with a growth of 15% over the previous year.
2. Google Search: 90.745.000 unique users with a growth of 14% over the previous year.
3. YouTube: 88.342.000 unique users with a growth of 26% over the previous year.
4. Google Play: 84.968.000 unique users with a growth of 11% over the previous year.
5. Google Maps: 79.034.000 unique users with a growth of 26% over the previous year.
6. gmail: 72.405.000 unique users with an 8% growth over the previous year.
7. Facebook Messenger: 53.713.000 unique users with a growth of 242% over the previous year.
8. Google+: 48.385.000 unique users with a growth of 78% over the previous year.
9. Instagram: 43.944.000 unique users with a growth of 34% over the previous year.
10. Music (iOS): 42.546.000 unique users with a growth of 69% over the previous year.

Of the entire list, the enormous growth experienced by Facebook Messsenger with respect to the same period of the previous year. It is clear that the strategy of requiring users to download another application has been successful and what is more, in 2015 there are plans to launch new apps that go in the same direction.

It is also curious that the only Apple application that has crept into the list is Music which comes standard installed on iOS devices, the rest of the apps are multiplatform and can be found on different mobile operating systems.
