Surely there are those who take advantage of it, and there are those who have forgotten it. However, even despite the complications that the function entails between newer and older computers, since a change in the new system makes them incompatible with those prior to 2012, and the fact that it is necessary to decide on that option or on share to iOS, AirDrop is one of the best file sharing alternatives. Not only is it because we have it already installed, or because its use is really simple. It is also because of the privacy and security offered to users, and it is precisely about that process that we want to talk to you next.
Currently, the AirDrop system allows you to use the so-called Bluetooth Low Energy (BT LE), with a Wi-Fi connection enabled to share files between Macs or with iOS. You can share everything that you have saved on your mac with your mobile or your iPad, just by dragging the file in question to the screen, or simply by giving the order from the Share menu and selecting AirDrop as an option. But you can also get what is on iOS or on the other computer by giving the order from your Mac.
But perhaps the idea itself is not new. In fact, there are several systems to share files, and the cloud has become one of the favorites. But looking at the things that come to light for files stored in the cloud, it is very likely that if you are a privacy and security freak, you prefer other methods of sharing files. And it is in that sense that AirDrop makes a difference for three reasons:
Identity encryption
When you use AirDrop, a virtual identity is created with a 2048-bit RSA security level. That means that everything that is stored there, partly because of the encryption that is used, partly because of everything that we are going to tell you next, will be inaccessible to whoever wants to enter to gossip or steal part of them. On the other hand, your profile photo is hidden, and only the name of your team and the content that is being sent is shown (in the case of the Share with everyone option). This way you also make sure that there is no possibility that third parties that you are not interested in will identify you.
Closeness
The AirDrop function, unlike other file sharing systems, requires that the exchange of files be carried out depending on the location of the users. If you are not in the same range, you simply will not be able to receive or send anything. In this way, security and privacy are more difficult to corrupt, since you need on the one hand someone close to you, and on the other hand, to have granted permission from the application so that they can see what you are sharing.
Small-scale sharing
AirDrop technology does not claim to be the solution to all of our file sharing problems. It pretends to be so only at the local level, in certain rare cases, and most likely with the aim of doing it with people from our environment. Of course, guaranteeing security and privacy above everything else. It is not a competition to the cloud, but it is certainly a better option if the ideal circumstances arise such as the work office, sharing between our own devices, or sending something to a friend with whom we share space at that time.
