Should you buy a non-certified lightning cable for its price?

Lightning cable problems

It's not the first time we've talked about lighting cables on our blog. In fact, there has been an important controversy in the sense of the problems that some caused with erosions and corrosion. However, in this case, we want to talk about the opportunity to buy cables that are not certified by Apple. Obviously, the most important reason to do it is obviously the price, because they can be obtained on the internet for up to seven times less than the original cost. And of course, in times of crisis, that draws our attention. So today we ask ourselves Should you buy a non-certified lightning cable for its price?

The truth is that you have to take into account that non-certified lighting cables, like any other cable for Apple's exclusive slots, they can cause us more problems than we think. The first, which I imagine will be known to all, that the device ends up suffering damage. But eliminating the one that is the most common of concerns, and that many users show every day that in most cases it is a myth, I think there are other things to take into account.

The first of these is relative to the compatibility of the lightning cables not certified. As you may well know, your device is capable of detecting whether or not the cable is one that Apple certifies. Although this problem can be solved if you have the jailbreak, the truth is that we still have one more thing to see when it comes to understanding if the low price compensates us more.

This is a legal issue. The lighting connector It is an invention patented by Apple. Therefore, to be fully legal, they must be recognized by the company. Obviously, most of these creations come from China. And there we already know that this type of thing, they do not care enough, that they are the kings of the replicas.

However You should buy a non-certified lightning cable for its price? I think not for all that was said. But each one must choose what suits him best for himself.

Well, my experience tells me that there is everything ... I bought two lightening cables together with some covers for the iPhone and the quality was extremely poor, so much so that after a few uses (no more than three!) The cable separated from the connector, revealing some fine welds and pain, half broken already ...

However, on my last trip to Spain I forgot the charger + cable at home and I had to go to the Chinese of my town to buy one to get out of trouble despite its quality but to get out of trouble and not have to spend the EXCESSIVE price of an official one. At what good time, a fat cable, that I have used a couple of weeks and that for now it complies. And for only € 2,5!

The Chinese also manufacture the certificates and I think that at first glance the quality is noticeable, I think that in that Apple abuses the loyalty of its customers, the original accessories have unjustified costs for massive products, they are the ones who feed the trout versions, yes put logical values, we would not talk about this issue

True Nestor. We always talk about whether they are certified or not. Not that they are Apple. Greetings and thanks!!!

I do not know if it is appropriate or not but the original Apple lightning cables are very bad, I have already changed 7, all broken in the same place

Certified cables (the message of non-original accessory does not appear on the screen) there are for less than 2 euros on ebay, but the quality is VERY bad. In an iPhone it is not so much the problem but when it is an iPad, there are many charging problems: It takes longer to charge, it stops charging at the slightest movement and sometimes it stops charging before reaching 100%. I do not recommend them at all.

Since my original iPad cable was eaten by my damn cat, in the end I opted to buy a certified Belkin brand cable (they sell them in the official Apple store but they are much cheaper on eBay) and they are totally worth it, It gives me the impression of higher quality than the original Apple and zero problems with it.

Everything Apple makes and sells is very expensive. I recognize that in most cases the quality and innovation justify the price, but in the case of cables and chargers things change. At home there are 7 devices between Iphones and Ipads, so I have already bought several (4) original cables and 3 have turned out very bad, they have broken down after a few days, and we are careful when using them. I have also bought many, more than 10 non-originals, and the experience has been mixed, some very bad and others that simply have not failed after months of continuous use. Conclution; As long as the high price that Apple puts on its cables continues, we will continue to "experiment" with others that are more suitable in their price. Greetings to all.

Very good note, thanks for the info. But I have a point of view alien to the issue of the cable, the wording should improve, the example is that in a sentence they used the word "evidently" twice, nothing of importance, but it is a point that they can correct.
    Regards!

Like me, I have broken cables from China for € 1 and from Apple, and they break anyway, depending on the rod and the treatment you give them. I even have an original that should not make contact well and it tells me that it is not original ...

I have the original and I am very unhappy with it, what we see in the news image happens and when I plug in my iPhone it tells me that the cable is not original

Well, in reality the only way that your cable is not damaged is by putting sticks on it and covering them so that it does not bend in the lighting connection and disconnecting it carefully because I have had originals and they were damaged the same after a few days, and generics that are the What do I use now, I have one that I do not know what brand it is, I imagine it is Chinese, but it is in the form of a shoelace, so is the cable and it has lasted 2 months and so far everything is fine

ps: I tested normal generic cable and it was damaged, I tested flat cable and it was damaged
the cordon is the best so far
and the part of the pins always stays glued to the iphone and cable on the other hand that always happened to me until I learned to disconnect it and the cables last a rest

    SOLUTION…
Call Apple technical service and in a day or two you have a new one at home.
I did it and they sent it to me without problem. That if being under warranty.
    I hope it helps you

I have tried several and I prefer the Belkin that I buy through Aliexpress. The price of the original cables is an abuse.

Well, I bought one from China and at first well, the quality was quite good, only it suddenly stopped working, that simple. It hasn't broken or anything just stopped working, no message even appears on the ipad, it's like it's not connected.
So nothing, at the moment I'm shooting with the original.
I'm going to take a look at those from belkin to see how it goes

All the official apple cables (the one that came with the ipad and the one that came with the iphone) have been stripped at the connector. Tired of this, I bought a pirate one (Chinese, for € 2,5) and I have been using it without problems for more than a year.

I have bought 2 original cables and 2 CHINESE ... Like others I think the same, the Originals have been broken in the same place and it is always the RED cable that I imagine is the one that carries the current. The Chinese are almost the same and they are lasting longer than the originals and I have not had problems even to synchronize with or without Jailbreak

Belkin cables much better than the original Apple and you have them in colors..they are great 😀

Just today I had to buy a cable for an iPhone 5s. I have gone through MediaMark and honestly it seemed like an absolute theft € 20 for a sad cable that was not even original from Apple. I have approached a Chinese next to my house and I have bought one for € 3,5 which is quite good looking and good finishes.

I'm sorry but € 20 is enough for a few Chinese cables even if they don't last half a year.
