It has been a long time since news of this type related to the exploitation of minors or illegal working conditions in Apple factories was the daily bread. For a long time, the Cupertino company looks in detail at everything related to the production lines of its factories in China and now they are investigating a report issued on the Quanta Computer factory, in which some of its employees would be being forced to work excessive overtime and unofficial night hours.
These are internship students
In this case the report presented last week by a group advocating for the labor rights of students and academics, showed that Quanta "used a significant number of students aged 16-19" to assemble the parts of Apple's smartwatch, but the working conditions were not compliant. Chinese regulations or Apple itself and that is why they have denounced it and now From Cupertino, what happened is being investigated.
Apple itself is clear in this regard and there have been several audits carried out in companies that manufacture products to prevent precisely this from happening. In this case, several students are also showing that something was not being done correctly when they declared that the practices in those factories and at those times were required to receive graduation from their school (receive it at the same time as the rest of their classmates) something that Apple has not allowed for years in its production lines.
Several students were forced to illegally work at least a couple of overtime hours per day and night shifts, so we are confident that Apple will respond to these acts forcefully. Their annual supplier responsibility reports clearly specify that employees at these factories can work overtime, but always voluntarily and that the company has to give the worker a full day of rest for every six days of work.
