Apple removes third-party Reddit apps from the App Store for the NSFW option

reddit

A little over a week ago, Reddit launched its first official app for the Apple app store. Although we could consider that it really is the second, since two years ago he bought the Alien Blue app that allows us to directly access the great community that is Reddit and becoming the "official" application of the platform. This new application offers a three-month trial with a Gold subscription. Once this trial period has ended, we will have to checkout if we want to continue using it, paying $ 3,99 per month or $ 29,99 per year.

Those from Cupertino have just withdrawn a large number of applications that allow us to access Reddit, due to NSFW content. It seems a lot of coincidence that as soon as the official Reddit application arrived in the App Store, the rest of the unofficial applications have been expelled from it, but everything has an explanation.

The main reason given by Apple for removing all third-party apps from Reddit is because the presence of the option that allows us to display NSFW content according to user preferences. Some of the applications that have been affected by this decision are Narwhal and Eggplant. All these applications come natively with the button deactivated in this way, by default pornography or any other content that contains adult language is never shown.

The development team of the official Reddit application, which arrived a few days ago on the App Store has been contacted by Apple and You have been asked to also remove that switch that allows NSFW content to be displayed, just like the other apps, but at no time have you been threatened with removing your app from the app store. Currently all developers are working to eliminate this option and thus be able to quickly return to the Apple application store.
