The headline may make little sense if you don't know the case that happened to me on an iPhone X with a swollen battery, so the best thing to do in these cases is read the first part of this story about my iPhone's swollen battery, which in my case ends with a happy ending. And it is that a few days ago after taking the iPhone out of the case I realized that the device was with the screen detached and without wasting a second thinking about anything else I went to the nearest Apple Store, in this case the Apple store at the CC La Maquinista.

The title of this article is exactly what happened to me with the iPhone X case and its swollen battery. And it is that after the first diagnosis with the Genius in the store and after the payment by Visa card (to retain the money and increase the amount if necessary) of 75 euros, the new device is already in my hands. Each situation is different and in no case do I say that this has to be the same for all of us who have this problem, but the steps are usually similar for everyone and when Apple does things well it is important to share it, as well as when it does things wrong ...

My situation was similar to that of many other people and that is that having an iPhone X without an official guarantee (bought in November 2017) could be too high a cost depending on the repair, but in my case - I repeat this ad nauseam because each case is different- It was solved with the shipment of a repaired iPhone X 5 days after taking it to the official Apple store.

For those who do not have a store nearby, they can use official distributors with technical service and for this you just have to go through the process to name the problem on the firm's website and enter the postal code of your city and see which are the closest. In case of having to send the device by courier, a cost of about 12 euros applies., but we avoid having to take the terminal to the store.

Assess the damage and obtain a solution

In my case, after taking it to the store due to the swollen battery problem, the Genius told me that paying with the Visa for the repair that in this iPhone is 75 euros for the battery change, the terminal would be sent out of the store to evaluate the damage and subsequently I would be informed if there were any more damaged parts so that I could accept their repair or not with the consequent cost at my expense.

Luckily for me (the phone was pristine without drops, never wet in water, etc) the repair was for the battery but Apple with a very Apple policy decided to send me a model just like mine but restored. In my case, because of the messaging data, the iPhone X left Prague, in the Czech Republic and in one day it arrived home. And is that when you take the device to the Apple Store and they have to send it out for repair, the return shipment with or without repair is made at the customer's address and I understand that this is not a measure to prevent COVID-19, it is a common measure.

The restored iPhone X box is white, they add in an email the new IMEI information, serial number and other data of the new device which will help us to identify it in case of failure and others. I can say that everything has been faster than expected considering the health problems we are facing today. I imagine that this is the procedure they follow with all devices that have a swollen battery or at least this should be for all of them.

The repaired iPhone X came with iOS 13.4.1 and after updating, uploading the backup and working perfectly.

    Good afternoon: I'm on the same page as you, exactly the same thing happened to me and, just today, I received an email from Apple informing me of the replacement and that it is already in the Apple Store to pick it up.

    To run out of mobile, I bought the 11 and, although people recommend that I return it to keep the X and wait for the 12, I think I will not do it since, every time, I care less about not having the latest model because I interact more with the Apple Watch than the iPhone.

    By the way, I didn't have to pay anything in advance, do you?

      Hi Pablo, I'm glad that Apple applies these measures to the majority of users with this problem, without a doubt, it is the best solution for everyone.

      In my case they only asked me for a Visa to "retain" the money but nothing is paid until the replacement terminal arrives, in fact I have the invoice in the mail and they have not charged anything yet.
