How to carry the driver's license on the iPhone

A long time ago, the General Directorate of Traffic in Spain promised users to avoid the need to carry vehicle documentation with themselves, such as a driver's license, ITV and even documentation related to civil liability insurance. Now you can finally take your driving license directly to your mobile phone thanks to the official miDGT application, we show you how to do it. It is time to leave the papers well kept at home and forget about the hustle and bustle when the authority asks us for documentation, the time of the digital age has come.

This application was launched in "early access" in the Google Play Store and right after that it has also allowed us to install it in the iOS App Store, that is, we will be able to use this new functionality that the DGT provides for all of us directly whether we have an Android device or if we have an iOS device, at least it is good news, and it is that these functionalities in Spain are used to being compatible with one service, but not with the other.

What do you need to put the card on your iPhone?

The first thing we have to do is download the miDGT application, an official application of the General Directorate of Traffic that is completely free.

Currently, the application allows you to check your digital permissions and your main data. Soon, we will incorporate new functionalities such as notices and sanction payments, the purchase of fees, requesting an appointment at our offices or the main procedures related to your permits and your vehicles.

Once you have installed the miDGT application, you can start using it quickly and easily, taking advantage of all the qualities. It is intended so that we can avoid having to transport with us all the documentation of our vehicle and that is a real advantage, especially when we do not have it with us or have suffered its theft or loss.

What does the miDGT application allow us?

We start with the most important thing, which is our driving license. Once we have identified with the miDGT application we will be able to access all the data about our driving license with its digital version, both the names, surnames and relevant dates, as well as the rest of the information. In the same way, we will be able to use the QR code that identifies it to the authorities as well as consult our remaining points easily and quickly.

The application also has the section "My vehicle", In it we will see our registered vehicles identified and related to our driving license, identified by the license plate. By accessing the section we will be able to see what the environmental label assigned to our car is, as well as a quick description of it, which includes:

• Brand and model
• Fuel
• Displacement
• Frame
• Date of first registration
• Environmental badge
• Validity and data of the last ITV
• Insurance entity and expiration
• Vehicle ownership

Circulation permit and technical sheet on your mobile

Another of the most interesting characteristics of this new digital system to carry documentation is that we will have access to a fully legalized and available circulation permit. As in the case of the driving license, we will have access to the driving license and also a QR code button, this code once activated will allow the competent authority to scan it with the reading program in order to officially verify the data it contains, the truth is that it is an important technical advance of in order to speed up the reading of the documentation and, above all, to completely eliminate counterfeiting.

For the cases of slightly more modern vehicles, we will also be able to access the technical sheet of the vehicle where the data that usually goes on the back of the ITV card can be found. In any case, even if we do not have an electronic data sheet, you will be able to see on the previous screen if your car has a valid ITV as well as its expiration date, so the issue of the technical sheet is perhaps the least relevant of all those available to the application of the General Directorate of Traffic.
