How to install Kodi on Apple TV

Kodi

Kodi is one of the best-known and most successful multimedia players for multi-platform users, not only because of the ability to play any file format but also because it allows the installation of numerous plugins that make it unique in its category. Limited for a long time to Jailbreak and therefore away from Apple TV, the arrival of the new fourth-generation model and the possibility of using Xcode to install applications are official allow us to enjoy it on the home TV from the Apple device. We explain step by step how to do it, with links to everything you need and with a video that will not leave you a doubt about how to do it.

Requirements

  • Have a developer account (free or paid). If you don't know how to do it in this link you have it explained.
  • Xcode with the associated developer account. Its download is free and you can do it from this link. (only available for Mac OS X)
  • The Kodi deb file that you can download from this link (we recommend the latest version)
  • The free application "iOS App Signer" that you can download from this link.
  • A 4th Generation Apple TV and a USB-C cable to connect to your Mac computer.

Procedure

  • Connect your Apple TV to your computer using the USB-C cable
  • Open Xcode and in the File> New menu choose Project
  • Within the tvOS> Application menu we choose the option «Single View Application» and click on the Next button.
  • In the "Product Name" field we write the name we want to give the project, in the case of the example "Kodi" and click on Next.
  • We choose the location where we want to save the project (the desktop in the case of this example) and click on Create.
  • Within the "Team" drop-down menu we choose our developer account associated with Xcode (as we have said at the beginning of the article) and click on the "Fix Issue" button in the event that the yellow triangle appears to solve possible problems with provisioning profile.
  • With the yellow triangle already disappeared we minimize Xcode.
  • We open the application "iOS App Signer" within "Signing Certificate" and check that our developer account is associated. In «Provisidning Profile» we choose the one that corresponds to our «Kodi» project.
  • Click on "Browse" and select the "del" file that we downloaded earlier. We then click on «Open» and then on «Start».
  • Once finished we return to Xcode and in the upper bar, in "Window" we select "Devices> Apple TV". Click on the "+" and select the "ipa" file that we have just created.

After a few minutes the Kodi application will appear on the screen of our Apple TV so that we can enjoy our multimedia library and the plugins that we want to install. We will explain these procedures in future tutorials.

It can be done in a very similar way but you need the specific "deb" for the iPhone or iPad.

Doesn't it work with the normal cable that comes with the Apple TV?
    Thank you.

    1.    Luis Padilla said

No, that cable you say is a Lightning, you need a USB-C which is not included in the box.

It happens to me the same as Juan Carlos, I had been using KODI and MAME for several weeks and suddenly when trying to access the applications a message appears saying "Not available". Any idea how to fix it? I will try to reinstall again but guidance would be appreciated if you know why this happens. Thank you

The problem is that the certification expires after a while, the solution is to reinstall it on the Kodi tv.

Hello, my case looks like Juan Carlos, the kodi icon appears in apptv4 but when I click the icon it says kodi not available. It is true that it worked for me at home, but I left it to a friend, and they get that unavailable message. Could it be because of the signature of the certificate that has installed it as Glez says?
