iOS 7.1 gives many users problems with internet sharing

Hotspot problems with iOS 7.1

It seems that the new update from Apple for mobile devices, iOS 7.1, continues to give headaches to many users. If a few weeks ago when it was launched many users complained that their compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch were losing battery performance, now a problem is added that makes many of them cannot share the internet from your device with others, the Hotspot function.

After updating to iOS 7.1 apparently the APN settings (Network Access Point) disappear for certain users, but what's more, even if the user enters them manually, this configuration disappears after exiting the settings menu and with it the loss of the possibility of sharing the internet. This problem is not unique to a single iPhone model, but affects both the iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S.

This problem it already happened in the previous betas to the final version of iOS 7.1, as has been reported by many users and Apple seems to have let it go without correction until now, that they should review it and release a new software update that resolves this APN configuration conflict. In the Apple support community there is a long thread where this problem is discussed.

Apparently it happens under iOs 7.1 if we have a card SIM of a virtual operator or an operator that does not have a direct agreement with Apple. In Spain it seems that there is no problem if our company is Movistar, Orange, Vodafone or Yoigo, but the problems begin if we have a card from a virtual operator such as Tuenti, Simyo or Pepephone among others. Users complain by calling their operators' customer service, but they respond that the problem does not come from them, but that it is Apple who has created the conflict in the connection.

Even from Cupertino they have not commented on the matter, but this issue does not seem to have a solution because it seems more like a software problem. No wonder shortly let's see an iOS 7.1.1 version that fixes this bug of configuration to be able to share in Internet via Wifi of our data rate.

Do you suffer from these problems on your iPhone?

With orange, vodafone and movistar, who are the acquaintances that I have, it has not failed them at any time, it will be with those companies in which the configuration is not automatic and must be done by hand

Yes, I have Pepephone and I'm very happy too, but since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't share the internet, (I used it a lot with the ipad Air) I hope it will be solved soon ……

The truth is that with the new ios7.1 the iphone 4 works much faster and has generated an improved performance of the system, but my company is ONO and since the update as they comment it is not possible to share the internet, which it did Before with ios 7 so my connection that I made connecting the ipad mini with the iphone has left me hanging, I hope they fix this failure soon.

Confirmed, Iphone 5S with Pepephone does not work sharing internet.

Indeed, when you write the APN and exit the menu, what you have written is deleted.

My iphone 4 with IOS 7.1 does not allow me to share the internet with pepephone as a result of updating to 7.1

With this it does not work either https://www.actualidadiphone.com/2013/07/22/tutorial-unlockit-crea-el-perfil-apn-de-tu-conexion-a-internet-sin-que-esta-se-borre-sola/ . Do not bother because this does not fix the problem that those in the block have generated, which is becoming poorer.

No, that doesn't work either ... I will have to wait for a solution because I don't see another alternative, well ...

The same thing happens to me, I have Iphone 4 and jazztel, and since I update to 7.1 it does not let me share the internet either through Wi-Fi or via USB or Bluetooth. I share the connection with a macbook air and the error I get is that it assigns itself the IP address, makes the Wi-Fi connection, but does not have internet. It is seen that what is not working is the DHCP server of the Iphone.

I have the same problem as Alfreds. I am from Jazztel, I have called the telephone company 4 times and they have not been able to offer me a solution, the problem from what I read is Apple. I guess it only remains to wait for a new update….

I have the same problem on an iPhone 4 from R, and it is a real nuisance because it is something that I use every day! I contacted Apple technical service and they told me there is no "official" solution. I am very pissed off.
You know if there is some "user level" way to go back to ios 7.0.

    Thank you!

The truth is that with the new ios7.1 the iphone 4 works faster for me and the system has improved, but my company is SIMYO and since the update, as they say, it is NOT POSSIBLE to share the internet, I hope they will soon fix this failure

Since I updated my Iphone4 to IOS7.1, I can't share the internet. My operator is Simyo. After trying to set up Internet sharing again and again, the last thing it tells me is: "to enable Internet sharing for this account, please contact Carrier." Since I don't know what this Carrier thing is, I tweeted Simyo to see what he tells me. By the way, I use internet sharing with my Ipad Mini, which I also update to 7.1 x if this was the problem

We are hostages of this situation: the apple is extorting the "unofficial" carriers to sign agreements (money, obviously), or it does not support tethering. Simply.
The question is: how much money does it mean to change the bad image that APPEL is giving?

    Hello:

It seems to be and according to the tests by the users and I take my case as a reference. I have Pepephone, and with my IOS 5.1 I shared the internet without problems until I installed the IOS7, what is the difference? Well, it is more than clear, my provider is not of course, but rather the new operating system that I have updated.
There is no doubt that Apple has manufactured very good terminals, "without programmed obsolescence", but they are lasting too long and that hurts them for the sale of new terminals, so the programmed obsolescence has been included in the IOS7 to go ending with terminals, let's say " old "just like Microsoft, Adobe and many others have done for years. From brands, little by little they have been implementing things without much sense that make many computers unable to chew.
I think that this to Apple in theory will bring in many millions of dollars so I do not think they will waste their time in solving a problem that they have studied to implement it and achieve their objective, sincerely they are not going to solve anything, they also try to blame the telephone operator , But why not with the IOS 5.1? Let each one draw their conclusions, I am convinced that it will do nothing, but think that many users will spend a lot of money on a brick that before if it worked well and now no longer by engineering implementation with obscure purposes.
If you read on the internet you will see what I am talking about, I cannot publish certain data and information that I have, only to say that perhaps I am wrong or rather that Apple read everything that is written and reconsider on the subject and solve the problem even against its original directives.

    regards

FINALLY!!!! Version 7.1.1 has already been released and with this one if Internet sharing works.
I am from Simyo, and since I contacted them to see how to solve the problem, this morning they sent me an email, to inform me that 7.1.1 had been released, and to test it to see if it worked, said and done, I have installed it on my iphone 4 and I can share the internet on the Ipad again.

  18.   alfreds said

When I share the internet with another iPhone, my data consumption begins to skyrocket horribly and uncontrollably, even when the other device is not doing anything, I run out of my GB of internet very quickly because the other device possibly detects it as Wi-Fi and starts to download something in the background, I don't know if it's the software update or something else, does anyone know what I can do to remedy this?
