IPhone 8, 8 Plus and X are compatible with the European Galileo positioning system

The technological era meant a before and after, but the launching of satellites meant much more so that the different terminals around the world could be located. The GPS technology it has accompanied us throughout all this time allowing us to travel, share our location and many other things that developers have been able to introduce into their applications.

The latest products released by Apple, the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X are compatible with Galileo, the European positioning system that has 15 satellites operating in orbit that send the necessary positioning information to the devices in question. In addition to Galileo, these devices support other positioning systems such as American GPS, GLONASS, and QZSS.

Greater precision when locating with Galileo, the European GPS

The Galileo satellite positioning system was born in the European Union due to the need to become independent from the positioning systems of other great powers such as the United States or Russia. Until now, Apple devices were compatible with GPS, a technology of the United States Army; GLONASS, Russian technology; and QZSS, the Japanese positioning system.

The European Galileo program was also born with the claim of being a system of civil use. Although at the moment it has 15 active satellites in orbit, It is expected that by the end of 2020 there will be twice more in orbit: 30 satellites that will increase the precision of the location in mobile terminals (one of its applications).

Other devices such as those from the BQ company already have Galileo compatibility, but this news is important because it is the Apple's first time integrating European technology into its devices as is this positioning system that claims to be a pioneer in navigation. Mixing the information from these systems will increase accuracy in applications such as Maps or Google Maps.
