Apple Maps 'Look Around' prepares to reach other countries

iOS 13 brought with it news in Apple Maps like the arrival of the Panoramic View or 'Look Around'. This function, similar to the Street View of Google Maps, allows the user to visualize the streets and roads as if they were present on them. Thanks to a fleet of vehicles with enough technology to capture 360º, Apple has managed to reach many countries, including Spain. In fact, in recent weeks from Cupertino they are programming new routes for their vehicles with the aim of increase the number of countries and regions that support Look Around, among which are Hong Kong, Austria or Switzerland.

Apple is conducting field measurements with vehicles around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps and support “Look Around” functionality. We may periodically revisit and collect information from some locations in order to maintain an up-to-date and high-quality map.

Apple Maps informs through the official website the way they have of collect the information necessary to carry out the panoramic views collected in Look Around. It makes use of backpacks, iPhones, iPads and vehicles mounted with high quality 360º cameras in order to collect the maximum information from the different countries.

The official website collects the dates on which the images were captured. For example, the last update of the maps of Spain was between the months of May and June of this year. We can change country to observe when a new mapping is planned with Apple's 360º technology.

In the case of Switzerland, Hong Kong or Austria They do not yet have 360º images stored and therefore do not access the Look Around functionality from Apple Maps in their country. But nevertheless, Apple has already scheduled the circulation of its vehicles by these countries in the coming months. In the case of Switzerland, some regions have already started their mapping the second half of July and will run until August 16, others will start in August and end in September. Another example is Austria, which begins its mapping from September in some regions. In others, it began on July 12 and will end on September 25.
