New lock screen, windows on iPad and more news for WWDC 2022

Gurman has launched his new weekly newsletter with his usual trickle of leaks about the news that iOS 16 will bring us, and this week he has told us very interesting things, such as a new lock screen or windows on the iPad.

We are just over a week away from Apple presenting us with iOS 16 and the rest of the operating systems. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch await a new update that makes them rejuvenate with improved functionality and new features. Gurman has already said that we should not expect a massive change in design, something that we already took for granted, but there are going to be very interesting changes that are going to change how we use our devices.

If we talk about iOS 16, the lock screen will always be on with the “Always On Display” functionality that we have already told you about here. This functionality, reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, will require other changes in the system that will be used by the rest of the models. What good would an always-on lock screen be if we can't see any information on it? Gurman claims that we will have new wallpapers with «widget» type functionalities. Apple may not allow you to fully customize the lock screen, but it does allow you to create Apple Watch-style screens, with configurable "complications" that allow us to always have our most relevant information at hand.

There will be changes also in the application Messages, which will have a more “social network” design that of messaging application. Regarding the Health application, without giving more details, Gurman assures that it will bring many new features to both iPhone and Apple Watch, although he rules out its arrival on macOS or iPadOS.

And what about the iPad? Will the long-awaited update arrive that will finally make it a valid alternative to Macs? For now we will have to stay with the arrival of the windows. We don't have any more data on this, but growl says that iPadOS 16 will bring changes to multitasking and window management. It could be a very important change in the way we handle our iPad, bringing it much closer to the experience of handling a computer.

The Apple Watch will have many changes with watchOS 9, Gurman talks about "significant improvements in watchOS that will affect our daily use and how we navigate through the system", in addition to the low power mode that we have already discussed on other occasions. With tvOS, Apple TV will gain many more features related to the Smart Home. Finally macOS will include a new design for the Settings app, more similar to iPadOS, as well as new designs for some native applications (Mail, please).
