The next big iPhone design change could be in 2020: foldable iPhone

Foldable iPhone 2020

Currently the fashion in the mobile sector is to enjoy a whole front starring the screen. No buttons, no frames; no cameras; the more space the screen occupies on the surface, the more eye-catching. All these ideas were collected in a design: the iPhone X was born. And, of course, the other brands have done the same and all the news came together in the past Mobile World Congress.

However, it seems that Apple has in mind a new redesign with which to surprise all users: a foldable iPhone. And this great change could come in two years; that is, in the year 2020. This has been confirmed by an analyst from Bank of America Merrill Lynch in a note to the clients of his company.

iPhone folding concept

According to comments Wamsi mohan in the note: "Our testing suggests that Apple is working with vendors on a foldable phone, which could potentially double as a tablet, for launch in 2020". It also referred to what could be seen this coming fall with the new iPhone models. It is believed that the design will not be a determining factor, although there will be different sizes, something determining in the past.

On the other hand, we must also remember that Apple would not be the only one interested in these types of devices. For some time, Samsung has been working to bring us its first folding smartphone on the market known under the name Samsung Galaxy X. Likewise, ZTE did the same and launched its personal vision of what a folding mobile should look like with the ZTE Axon M, although the truth is that its design did not convince critics much.

Lastly, some say that this new foldable iPhone that would arrive in two years would be a perfect replacement for the iPad mini, a tablet model that has not received improvements for a long time: the current model —iPad mini 4— was presented in 2015. Since then, those from Cupertino have focused on a model that starts from the 9,7-inch screen.
