Square Launches Magnetic Card Stripe Reader with Lightning

Much was said about the removing the minijack port from iPhones, a barrage of criticism that has given way to other manufacturers, Apple's competition, getting on the bandwagon of eliminating this obsolete audio port ...

Well, Square, the fintech that allows us to make banking transactions through POS terminals connected to our iDevices, has just updated its magnetic stripe reader that only had a connection via minijack to make it compatible with the latest iPhones. After the jump we give you all the details of this new launch of Square, the magnetic stripe reader with Lightning connection so that we can use it in the most advanced Apple devices.

As you have read, the use of the minijack to Lightning adapter to use Square with our iPhones from iPhone 7 is over, remember that it was from this when Apple removed the minijack port. This affects Square's magnetic stripe reader, something that although it seems that it is being used less and less still has its audience, therefore these new Card strip readers via Lightning do not have any NFC chip for Contactless payments.

The best thing about this new magnetic stripe reader with Lightning is that has the same price as the previous version with minijack connection: 10 dollars. Of course, Square where it does business is in transactions since will take up to 2.75% of each purchase in which we use the Square reader. However, it is businesses that have to assess whether to use Square or not since it is still much cheaper to use Square compared to traditional banking. In short, great news that will undoubtedly come in handy to anyone who has an iPhone from iPhone 7 and uses Square technology in their business.
