Is a tempered glass protector for iPhone worth it?

tempered-glass-present-iphone

"Yes", could you write this, close the post and make it clear. But I know that our readers are intelligent people and they need much more than that to believe what we tell them, and above all for them to trust us. That is why today I come to expose why a tempered glass protector for your iPhone is worth it, and why it might not be interesting at all.

The problem with plastic protectors in the end is usually the same, the appearance, the poor resistance to shocks and the ease of scratching, especially if we are not willing to spend a considerable amount of money on them, we are not going to deny that the protectors expensive plastics show a fairly good quality, I myself have a fairly high quality plastic protector, which is around € 25 and is currently packaged and in its box. Come in, you we are going to explain how tempered glass works and whether or not it is worth the money.

How are they different from common screen protectors?

The answer to this question is quite simple, in that it is not made of plastic. We can find plastic protectors at all kinds of prices, from one euro to more than twenty, generally depending on the quality, but not always. We find many companies and mobile brands that sell us some plastic protectors starting at five euros or more, which unfortunately we can find on eBay from the same supplier and the same quality. These "scams" around plastic protectors are very common, "well-known" companies that They repackage the cheapest protectors on the market and sell them at the price of gold in various phone stores.

Tempered glass protectors are made of thin layers of glass overlaid with a special, transparent adhesive. The good thing about these different layers is that depending on the manufacturer, we can find crystals with oleophobic layers, other layers of scratch protection, and even tempered Gorilla Glass 3 glasses, depending on what we are willing to spend. Of course, we can find tempered glasses that can last a long time, resistant to scratches and that will provide us with a lot of resistance, from € 4 on eBay. In short, a plastic protector protects from scratches, and nothing else.

Why does it protect more than classic plastic protectors?

tempered-glass-present-iphone-2

It really does not always protect more than plastic ones, but they do protect more than the vast majority of classic plastic protectors. The explanation is simple, these protectors are usually 0,3mm thick, which is almost another screen, and obviously, one screen does not break the same as two. There are several times that I have dropped my iPhone and I have seen my tempered glass shattered, and I have removed it thinking, goodbye screen, with the subsequent joy of finding out that my screen is intact.

Tempered glass breaks, obviously, but being tempered and having adhesives, it does not burst or chip, therefore it will never affect your iPhone screen, you just have to be careful and patient when removing it.

They are more comfortable than plastic films

If you notice, this section is not a question, but a statement. Why? Because it is crystal, it is the closest thing we will ever have to not wearing anything, since it is crystal. Also, many of them bring a oleophobic layer that allows us to save many fingerprints and smudges on the screen. The slip is usually higher than that of most plastic protectors, at least those that move in a similar price range.

They are easier to put on

I understand that placing something "rigid" on the screen can be scary, it seems that we only have one chance, it will be complicated, but nothing is like that. You just have to place the tempered glasses well, which is quite easy taking as a reference the home button and the handset, since we will never have bubbles in a tempered glass, since expels air automatically, so those annoying bubbles on the screen that are present in most users who place a plastic will disappear. And not only that, if you have enough patience and gentleness, you can remove and replace a tempered glass as many times as you want.

The disappointment of the tempered glass of the iPhone 6 / 6S

Cupert-Cinder-02

That's right, the curved edges of the iPhone 6 / 6S screen have made it difficult for many, many manufacturers to create full tempered glass. Unfortunately, most have chosen to adapt tempered glasses that do not cover the entire glass, losing considerably the resistance, since if it falls from the corner it will not be able to protect it, although they continue to provide more comfort to the touch, and those with rounded edges will not be annoying. touch.

However, we also have full body protectors that cover the entire front of the iPhone 6 / 6S, but the vast majority adopt an absurd price that not many are willing to pay. For example, our partner Luis Padilla analyzed this tempered glass that doesn't even show but it does not go below 35 euros. On the other hand, in devices up to the iPhone 5S the tempered glass is imperceptible. On the other hand, if you were wondering, no, the tempered glass doesn't affect the 3D Touch at all.

Tempered glass and screen protectors for iPhone

After reading this article, you may or may not be considering the acquisition of tempered glass, but also if you want to acquire some the experience is a degree, so I take the opportunity to recommend some of the ones that I have regularly tried so that you can try them yourself, in all price ranges, although mainly the cheap ones, so you can decide whether or not it is worth it.

  • Sit down: A considerable recognized Spanish brand that provides us with very good tempered glass protectors. Sentete has been my preferred vendor for the iPhone 5s and my iPhone 6. We can find them on both eBay and Amazon, with excellent packaging, rounded edges, and pretty good customer service for any issues. By 4 € We have them on eBay for the iPhone 6 / 6s, and at the same price for the iPhone 5 / 5s.
  • cinder: The excellence, the tempered glass of crystals, the analysis made by Luis Padilla says it all, I can say little more. I have not yet found any tempered protector that covers the entire screen and that they send to Spain, in the United States the one from Foxx Electronics is a 60% off and it's quite similar to Cinder's.
  • JustMobile: Its protector is not made of tempered glass, but its hardness is proven, it resists all kinds of blows, so it is almost the same as the installation of a tempered glass. This protector covers the entire screen and edges. Since 21 euros on Amazon, I have tried it and it is the closest thing to a tempered glass that you will find, I recommend watching the video.

What is absurd is to continue putting plastic and absurd to spend more than € 5 on one, when it will do the same function for you.

Below 5 euros you can find everything, good and bad. There is a lot of difference up to certain price levels, simply by touch, resistance, visibility, ... it is not buying 3 protectors for 1 euro and running.

What is certain is that after a certain amount of money, the differences are no longer so evident and may not compensate.

A tempered glass is better than a plastic. I always put it on without a problem

Good morning everyone. Previously I had an iphone 4 that I always put tempered glass on. I put them from € 10 to € 1,75 from ebay. All of them ended up scratching themselves somewhere (I suppose by ever putting the iphone face down on the table, or accidentally putting the keys in the same pocket as the iphone). I currently have an iPhone 6 and I am wearing a tempered glass protector purchased from 'Primark'. Yes, at Primark hahaha. It cost me € 2,5 and I'm super happy with it. At the moment it does not have any scratches and the touch is really good. Perhaps the only downside is that the width of the protector is precisely the width of the iPhone screen ... and if you're wrong, even a few millimeters, you see a rather ugly line (as it happened to me). I think there are a bit wider ... but I'm not sure. All the best!!

Could you help me? A direct link to buy the Cinder with shipping to Spain?

Currently and after a year I have one of palstidecor for € 1 and the truth is that it is great. But hey I prefer a little more protection right now.

A tempered glass protector is the best investment you can make for your smartphone. My wife accidentally threw your iPhone 6 plus and it fell completely with the screen, despite this the project hardly broke.

How is the coexistence of a tempered glass with the 3D Touch? Doesn't it force you to press harder than if you weren't there? that was always my question. Greetings.

I can contribute my testimony ... I work in a computer store in London also selling mobile phones and accessories for them ... By working there I have access to try accessories such as tempered glass and of course to put scores of devices (not all iPhones) at throughout each day.
I have seen many cases in which tempered glass has saved screens (which we also change in the store, easy about 50 a day) and in my particular case the other day I hit mine and thanks to said protector I saved my iPhone 6 from passing through operating room leaving the protective screen cracked like the one that breaks a mirror.
For those who ask about the 3D touch, I have to comment that I have tested it with each client who brings me their new iPhone 6S to add the tempering to their devices and it works perfectly without having to press more as someone says, or anything like that … It still works just as well.
Although it is true that you have to be a little careful to put it on, especially paying attention to remove all the specks of dust with some kind of pen before taking the step to place the glass; but I also have to say that on the iPhone taking the button and then the speaker as a reference, it is one of the devices where it is easier to place it, nothing to do with the Galaxy S6 edge that with the curvature of the screen is more likely to remain a little more raised at some end or those annoying air bubbles remain.
In summary, my total recommendation, and if there is someone who places it on the device in their own way, it is worth paying up to € 10 (£ for those of us who are in these lands) if it remains correctly since it is better to pay that amount than regret a broken screen whose replacement can reach € 200 at Apple for a replacement or a compatible exchange of more than € 100.
If someone wants to ask me about the subject, you can mention yourself in a tweet to @manugonso and I will answer you without problem. Greetings AI !!

Hello, I wanted to ask, I have an iPhone 8 and I am going to put a tempered glass, only a small slot comes from the speaker but not from the small circle on the left, something happens if it gets covered?
