We like to broadcast our favorite series content to television, especially now that we live in a connected world. Unfortunately, Smart TVs usually have a somewhat useless and limited operating system, however, we have many gadgets that are easy to configure that allow us to enjoy all the multimedia content we want in our living room. Today we want to talk about Chromecast 2, the cheap version of AirPlay that Google has on the market, we will analyze the content of the product as well as weigh its greatness and limitations. If you were thinking of acquiring a Chromecast you cannot miss this analysis.
To begin with, we must know how to differentiate. The Chromecast 2 is not and is not intended to be an Apple TVFurthermore, as a Google product, it has its limitations. Limitations that mainly affect iOS devices, since in terms of Android devices it does not present almost any, even allowing mirroring (mirror of the device's screen) directly to the TV. The Chromecast 2 is not an AirPlay either, with this I mean that it will not appear in the AirPay icon of our device, so we will not be able to share content as easily as we do with the Apple TV, although there are alternatives for it, we will tell you what they are at the end of the post.

What improvements does it have over the original Chromecast?
Few, if not almost none. The main novelty is the design, available in four colors, although we have decided to go for the black color so as not to break the harmony between the multimedia center devices, all black. It's compact, but it ends up being larger than the previous generation of the Chromecast. However, its flexible and flat cable makes it easy for us to be able to plug it into any television without any problem. In addition, between cable and Chromecast 2 we have a magnetized area, which will even allow us to stick the Chromecast 2 to save more space if possible.
In the technical section we have a device with a more powerful processor than the previous generation, accompanied by dual-band ac WiFi. However, content beyond 1080p (Full HD) resolution will continue to be incompatible with the Chromecast 2, something that does not surprise us from a device of only € 39.
Apps are the engine of the Chromecast
This is when we are going to elaborate on the "AirPlay" matter. The good thing about Apple's AirPlay is that when the receiving device is compatible, we have no problems sending one or the other content, any type of playback will be valid, since the link is the iOS device / AppleTV. However, this is not the case with the Chromecast, the Google Cast application for iOS does not enable AirPlay, therefore, each application must add a specific button to share the content. We find on-demand services such as Yomvi (Movistar +) that does not allow streaming content to Chromecast, although the most popular ones such as Spotify, YouTube and Netflix do.
This is quite a negative point, taking advantage of the AirPlay features would have been more obvious, however, there are alternatives. I currently use wiseplay to cast my content not available on the on-demand services via Chromecast. On the other hand, thanks to Safari allowing extensions, we get hold of momo cast, an application that adds an extension to Safari that will allow us to transmit any content we play to our Chromecast, and even mirror from Safari, the perfect alternative.
Conclusions
Google's Chromecast 2 gives for what it gives, we cannot have pretensions in the style of Apple TV, more than anything because it is a device that costs a third of what the Apple TV costs. On the other hand, the disagreements between Google and Apple are obvious, hence AirPlay is not enabled for the Chromecast, so we will have to depend on external applications, although they can be supplied with the alternatives that we have told you before, the reality is which is not as comfortable as AirPlay, but it is better than nothing. The reality is that we find many Android PC Box devices for a little more price that can perfectly supply the Chromecast, although that if they will give us many more headaches.
If you are clear about the utility that you are going to give itr, which does not go beyond playing videos from Safari, YouTube, Spotify and little else, this is your device. If you set yourself other challenges, Chromecast 2 will not measure up.
