The first beta of watchOS 10 is available now and requires an iPhone running iOS 17 to download. This function that learns from the user to determine how and when to charge the watch battery will come to Apple Watch SE, Series 6, Series 7 and Series 8, in addition to the Ultra model whose model was the only one with this function to date.
Currently, there are two functions around battery and battery optimization that can sometimes get confused:
- Optimized charging: Optimized charging allows the watch to learn from our charging habits and improve battery life. When the function is activated, the watch delays the charge until it passes 80% in some situations. Using machine learning, the watch knows our charging routine and charging will kick in when the watch is expected to be connected to a charger for a long time. Thus, the objective is none other than to make sure that the watch is charged when we remove it from the charger.
- Optimized load limit: this function allows predict the battery life we will use for a given day and only charge the battery to that level sufficient to cover expected needs. If we see that it has a charge limit, the user can force the automatic charge because he thinks that he is going to make intensive use of the watch that day.
These functions integrate technology based on automatic learning of user patterns with the aim of promote and take care of the battery to make sure we extend its life the more possible. And with watchOS 10 this feature will come to more watches.
