We have tested SemiRestore and it works. Restore your device without losing the jailbreak

SemiRestore

A few days ago we were talking about SemiRestore, an application that promised to "restore" your device to the same version that you had installed without having to save SHSH, or use iTunes, and the best thing is that you didn't jailbreak. Well, its developer, CoolStar, has allowed us to access the SemiRestore beta, and we have been able to test it, and I can assure you that it works and fulfills what it promises. At the moment there is still no release date, but the progression is good, and hopefully we will have the final version of SemiRestore soon. Here's how it works.

Terminal-Semi-Restore

The version that exists at the moment needs to write a series of commands in Terminal and also access our iPad through SSH. It is not a very complex process despite what it may appear through the window that is just above these lines. You just have to write 4 lines of code. Anyway, don't worry, because its developer you are working on applications for Windows, Mac and Linux, which will make this process much easier and more intuitive. The process is the following:

  • Your Mac and your device (iPhone or iPad) must be connected to the same WiFi network
  • Find the IP of your iPad, for which you can go to Settings> WiFi and press the blue arrow to the right of the WiFi network to which you are connected.
  • Download SemiRestore (when available) and leave it in the "Downloads" folder on your Mac
  • Your iPad must have the following packages installed from Cydia:
    • OpenSSH
    • APT 0.7 Strict
  • Open the "Terminal" application (Applications> Utilities), all the process that follows is done in this application. After each line of code hit Enter.
  • We are going to transfer SemiRestore to your device using this command (replace my IP "192.168.1.43" with yours):
    • scp SemiRestore-beta5 root@192.168.1.43: / var / root / SemiRestore-beta5
    • When it asks you to enter a password, if you have not changed it, it is "alpine" without quotes and in lowercase
  • Now we access our device (change my IP to yours):
    • ssh root@192.168.1.43
  • We make sure that SemiRestore is on our device, typing "ls" (without quotes) to show us the contents of the folder.
  • We type this code:
    • chmod + x SemiRestore-beta5
    • ./SemiRestore-beta5
    • When it asks you to type "0", do so and hit Enter.

Everything is done, we can only wait for the process to finish. It can be a long process, depending on what you have stored on your device. My 32GB iPad Mini took about 20 minutes, and my 3GB iPad 16 about 10 minutes. Patience, or rather, a lot of patience. Do not touch anything until the whole process has finished in the Terminal window. Even if it gets "stuck" for a long time, don't touch anything. Terminal will tell you that the connection has been closed and you will appear again in the «Downloads» path of your Mac, then everything will be over and you can start using your device.

This is not a risk-free process, so it should only be used as a last measure to restore your device. It is very useful to eliminate those glitches that make your device very slow or unstable. It is a great option to use as a last option.
