With iOS 14 the native Maps app will warn us of the radars

Radar

Little by little the developers are testing the beta versions of the new firmwares Apple launched on Monday afternoon after finishing the WWDC 2020 Presentation Keynote. During this week and the following, we will see a "trickle" of news about the new features that are going to be discovered.

One of these new functions that were not mentioned in the presentation, is the inclusion of speed cameras in notices when creating a route in Maps. Obviously Apple will only inform us of the position of those radars publicly known by the General Directorate of Traffic.

A somewhat controversial new feature was left in the pipeline when writing the Keynote script on Monday afternoon. Apple has reported that in the new version of Maps included in iOS 14, the positions on the map of the speed cameras will be shown, as if it were a Tom Tom.

The explanations are scarce, but it seems that markers are included on the map to indicate the speed cameras that you will find on your route, with red light cameras along a certain route.

Users are alerted to these speed cameras as they approach one, and they can view the positions of these cameras while navigating a map. It is not clear if users can create custom routes to avoid speed cameras of traffic.

This new function not yet activated in iOS 14 beta which was published on Monday afternoon. Apple may need some time to position the list of radars that the traffic administrations of each country will provide.

So this new function will appear in the different areas depending on the availability of the radar lists of each area in question. Once installed we will have to remain alert, since obviously it will only notify us of the radars that the DGT.
